Badha Lake & Hospital Road

Fazilka, 2007. Urban Design

Urban Design for Badha Lake and Hospital Road in Fazilka, Punjab (India)

Role: Project Designer

Park: Unrealized

Road: Realized

Badha Lake As part of a project lead by the Graduate Welfare Association of Fazilka (GWAF), and endorsed by the environmentalist organization ‘350’, I was invited to redesign Badha Lake in Fazilka. The concept was to allow for the place to cater to social and community gatherings so as to allow for the people of Fazilka to benefit from this green and blue space. The images created to illustrate the re-designed Bahda Lake were effectively used in the many campaigns conducted by the GWAF to raise awareness for this project. The program gained significant media attention since 2007 and illustrated articles discussing the future of Badha Lake were published in every major newspaper in India.

Hospital Road I was also invited to re-design a road to increase its appeal for pedestrians. The concept behind this urban upgrading project called for a design which supported Fazilka’s motto as a green and environmentally friendly city, without dismissing the need for fast moving emergency vehicles on a road which connects the city’s most important public place to a major hospital.
