The case study and actor profiles were prepared by Cassidy Johnson, Krista Canellakis, Benjamin Leclair Paquet, Katarina Soltesova and Nick Wolff based on fieldwork undertaken in 2010. Yaşar Adanalı (DPU Alumni) also made key inputs into the case. Caren Levy commented on the document and prepared the workshop activities. The preparation of this case study follows from a workshop ‘Alternative Futures fro Hasankeyf’ held 5-12 October 2010 in Hasankeyf, which was undertaken by the above-mentioned people from DPU, students and staff from Stuttgart University and in cooperation with the Nature Association of Turkey (Doğa Dernegı).

* Department Workshop for all faculty and students of the Development Planning Unit, The Bartlett, University College London. Offered to 180 students from over 90 countries, co-taught with 15 faculty members.

The aim of this workshop was to explore the complexities arising from negotiation and partnership among conflicting actors in the policy and planning processes at the regional scale. We achieved this through a simulation exercise based on the real case of the Ilisu Dam Project located in the Tigris River Valley in Turkey.
