Course Description

The Summer Institute introduces students to the methodological approaches of the “Urban Humanities” and provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. Class time will be divided into lecture/seminar sessions, methods workshops, lab/studio sessions, on-site fieldwork in Los Angeles, and reviews where work produced will be presented and given critical feedback by instructors and guest critics. The Summer Institute is one of the required courses for the graduate certificate in Urban Humanities and is the first course in the year-long sequence dedicated to studying Mexico City and Los Angeles.
